Most of the garage doors we see are a bit neglected. However, with a bit of TLC evey year you can extend the life of yours and help to prevent breakages.

Brush off debris and check for rust and corrosion. Lubricate all the moving parts including cables springs rollers and hinges, checking for signs of wear and tear.

We recommend using a specialised silicon spray for garage doors as it repels water which in the coastal parts of Devon and Cornwall that we cover can help against corrosion from sea air.

Tighten any parts that have worn loose. Do not attempt to repair or adjust springs as they are under a lot of tension and can be dangerous.

Be alert to any changes in the noise your garage door makes on opening and closing.
